The Church of the Three Kings is located in the heart of Dresden's New Town on the pedestrian main street. The first mention of the church in Altendresden dates back to 1421, when it was named after its altarpiece "To the Holy Three Kings".

In 1732, it had to move from its original location near the Golden Rider to make way for the main street in the New Town, which was to be built according to the will of Augustus the Strong. Thus, between 1732 and 1739, the baroque Church of the Three Kings was built at its current location according to the plans of the Zwinger architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann. The main design of the interior was done by George Bähr, the builder of the Frauenkirche.

On February 13, 1945, the Church of the Three Kings burned down completely in the bombing and was rebuilt between 1984 and 1990 as a multipurpose building that incorporates the original baroque structure. In it, in a unique way for Germany, are harmoniously united: A worship space with a valuable altar, a new organ, the rooms of the parish, a conference and meeting center and a diaconal education and encounter center.
